HyŌmon Ken Weapons
Hyōmon Ken is a technique specifically developed for two weapons: the
Ensui and the
Hyōma En. Detailed information about these weapons can be found below.
Ensui
Ensui is a
madōgu created by the
Hokage ninja Kokū roughly 400 years before the present day (the present day in the
Flame of Recca timeline, which is set somewhere in the late 1990's). The word
madōgu roughly translates to "magical tool" or "evil tool" (I think it depends on which context you want to take it, because Kokū's creations have evil counterparts that were created by Kaima), but they are commonly known as "elemental weapons" or "psychic devices" in the English dubs.
Ensui is basically a sword handle that uses water (from a liquid source or from the atmosphere) to create its blade. The length of the blade can be altered in accordance to how long or short the wielder wants it to be, and the actual amount of water taken in by Ensui is not reflected by its size (i.e. the length of the blade that is made up of enough water to fill a swimming pool can be the same as the length of the blade made up of the amount of water contained in a small mineral water bottle). With its blade,
Ensui is then used for normal physical attacks or specialized attacks that use up the blade's water (listed
here).
In the manga, the stones found at the end of
Ensui's handle are colored red-violet, and the handle itself is light blue. In the anime series, the stones are light blue and the handle is off-white.
HyŌma En
The
Hyōma En was created by Kaima, and is the "evil" counterpart of the
Ensui. It belongs to Meguri Kyōza, but Kai wields it for the duration of the
Ura Butō Satsujin. After Kai dies, it is returned to Meguri. While the
Ensui manipulates water in all its forms, the
Hyōma En seems to be more focused on water in its solid form. The kanji symbol found within its crystal means "ice." It is only in the
Flame of Recca Playstation 2 game that the
Hyōma En is used to pull off a technique using water in its liquid state.
The
Hyōma En in the manga series has a mind of its own, and constantly demands to be fed blood. Ironically, Tokiya destroyed the
Hyōma En with the
Ensui using a blade formed out of his own blood.
