Hyōmon Ken Techniques
Ensui Ranbu
The Ensui Ranbu (Ensui Boisterous Dance) is an attack wherein Tokiya bombards his opponent using Ensui with rapid, stabbing strikes. Though this move is executed by Mikagami in his battle against Daikoku (he countered the latter's stabbing strikes with his own), it is never given a proper name in the anime and manga. It is only given the name Ensui Ranbu in the Flame of Recca GBA game.
Hyōnaru Hebi
Kai used the Hyōnaru Hebi (Ice-formed Snake) to counter Tokiya's Mizunaru Hebi. This technique is almost identical to Mizunaru Hebi, but this time the snake is made of solid ice instead of liquid water.
Kai uses this technique in both the anime and manga, while Tokiya and Meguri Kyōza only use it in the Flame of Recca Playstation 2 game.
Mizu Kugutsu
Mizu Kugutsu (Water Puppet) is a defensive skill. Water from Ensui/Hyōma En takes the form of its wielder, deceiving the opponent and giving its wielder time to escape an attack or attack an opponent from behind. We first see this technique in Tokiya's battle with Koganei at Mori's mansion.
Tokiya uses this in the anime, manga, and PS2 game. Meguri Kyōza also uses it in the PS2 game.
Mizunaru Hebi
In executing the Mizunaru Hebi (Water-formed Snake), water from Ensui materializes as four spheres, symbolizing the four directions: North, South, East, and West. The four spheres then come together to form a larger ball, and the wielder strikes this ball with Ensui to release water in the form of a snake.
Tokiya is the only one who uses the Mizunaru Hebi in the anime, manga, and both the PS2 and GBA games.
Tsuranaru Hebi
The Tsuranaru Hebi (Icicle-formed Snake) is an attack that Tokiya came up with by combining Tsurara Mai and Mizunaru Hebi. In his battle against Kai, there are icicles jutting out from the ground because of Tokiya's Tsurara Mai and Kai's Tsurara Gaeshi (this term is only used in the anime; see below for more info). Tokiya stood near the icicles, and called on the four corners he does when he is about to use Mizunaru Hebi. Instead of slashing the sphere of water that formed out of the four smaller spheres, he stabbed Ensui into the ground, then called forth a snake from the icicles. Unlike the Mizunaru Hebi which is made of liquid water, the Tsuranaru Hebi is made of ice, with icicles sticking out all over its body.
Tokiya uses the Tsuranaru Hebi in the anime, manga, and both the PS2 and GBA games.
Tsurara Gaeshi
The Tsurara Gaeshi (Icicle Return) works the same way as Tsurara Mai, but it creates just one large icicle instead of multiple smaller ones. It is only in the anime that Kai calls the move Tsurara Gaeshi; in the manga it is just a variation of the Tsurara Mai and is not given a name of its own.
Tsurara Mai
The Tsurara Mai (Icicle Dance) is a move wherein the Ensui/Hyōma En uses the water beneath the ground to form icicles that spring up from the ground. May be used as a defensive or offensive move.
In the anime series, the Tsurara Mai causes a large number of small icicles to fly up from the ground, and the water in the atmosphere will cause these to produce more icicles that will rain down on the ground below.
Tō Kekkai
The Tō Kekkai (Frozen Shield) covers one's body from head to toe with an armor made of ice. Kai uses it to block Tokiya's Tsuranaru Hebi, but loses his arm because it was frozen solid and it shattered because of the impact of the attack.
In the manga, this move is an original technique developed by Kai, but Meguri Kyōza also uses it in the PS2 video game.
Zettai Reido
Zettai Reido (Absolute Zero) lowers the temperature of the Ensui's blade to Absolute Zero: the lowest attainable temperature (0°Kelvin). This makes the blade freeze and appear more jagged/solid, and anything that it comes in contact with freezes immediately.
Tokiya is the only one Hyōmon Ken practitioner who uses the Zettai Reido in the manga, anime, and PS2 game.
Red Ensui
Tokiya is the only one among the Hyōmon Ken practitioners who uses his own blood to form Ensui's blade. He first did this during his battle with Kai, after tricking the latter into thinking that he had used up all of Ensui's water when he unleashed the Tsuranaru Hebi.
